Lincoln-Way Student Interns Donate Funds to Benefit Silver Cross Employees
New Lenox, IL (April 3, 2013)— Lincoln-Way East High School students along with Scott Fletcher, Dean of Students and teacher for the Human Anatomy & Physiology class at Lincoln-Way East, presented Laura Valencik, Director of Volunteer Services at Silver Cross Hospital, with a check for over $160. The students donated the money, which will be placed in the Vera Smith Grant fund to be used for staff education.
Recently, 23 high school seniors participated in a 10-week intern program at Silver Cross where they rotated through 17hospitalareas including the Post Acute Care Unit (PACU), a nursing unit, diagnostic imaging, endoscopy, laboratory, respiratory, emergency department, volunteer services, security, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, Cardiac Cath Lab, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago at Silver Cross, The University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center at Silver Cross, and the Silver Cross Free-Standing Emergency Care Center in Homer Glen.The hospital staff, which mentored the interns, provided a quality educational experience to these students. Through this donation, the students showed their appreciation for the valuable experiences the hospital employees gave them during the internship program.
