Silver Cross Hosts Free Stroke Symposium for Physicians, Nurses & Paramedics

New Lenox, IL (April 12, 2013)—The Silver Cross Neuroscience Institute will host a free Stroke from the Heart program on Saturday, May 4, 2013 for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, paramedics and allied health professionals who are interested in increasing their knowledge of the management and treatment of acute stroke.  The event will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Tinley Park Convention Center.    Advanced registration is required by April 22, 2013.  More information is available at or by calling 1-888-660-HEAL (4325).

Participants will learn about the latest medical, interventional options, and clinical trials available to prevent and manage acute ischemic stroke and stroke caused by cardiac disease. They will also learn how to evaluate the causes of subarachnoid hemorrhage and the management of ruptured cerebral aneurysm.  Faculty will discuss the role of emergency professionals in triaging patients and also the role of nurses in the acute intervention and care of stroke patients.  In addition, the importance of rehabilitation intervention for early recovery of stroke patients will be addressed. 

The full-day conference will be led by Dr. Harish Shownkeen, Medical Director of the Neuro Interventional Program at Silver Cross Hospital and Dr. Abdul Sankari, Medical Director of the Silver Cross Catheterization Lab and President of Heartland Cardiovascular Center.  Course faculty includes Abbigayle Doerr, Advanced Practice Nurse at Silver Cross Hospital and Cadence Health; Dr. Michael Hall, Interventional Neuro Radiologist at Cadence Health; Dr. Thomas Hurley, neurosurgeon at Silver Cross Hospital and Cadence Health; Dr. Parag Jain, Cardiologist at Silver Cross Hospital; Dr. M. Kamran Khan, neurosurgeon at Silver Cross Hospital and Cadence Health; Dr. Avi Mazumdar, Interventional Radiologist at Silver Cross Hospital and Cadence Health; Dr. David Mikolajczak, Medical Director of the Silver Cross EMS System; Dr. Silvio Morales, Medical Director of Silver Cross Hospital  Emergency Services; Dr. Michelle Muellner, Interim Medical Director of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago at Silver Cross Hospital; Dr. Sohal Patel, Neurologist at Silver Cross Hospital; and Dr. Subhash Patel; Neurologist at Silver Cross Hospital.
