Silver Cross Charity Golf Classic Raises $135,500 for New Hospital

New Lenox IL (June 28, 2013) — The Silver Cross Foundation raised $135,500 at the 22nd Annual Charity Golf Classic on June 24. Held at the historic Midlothian Country Club, 216 golfers came out to support the new Silver Cross Hospital. Funds raised will be used to support surgical services at the new hospital located at I-355 and Route 6 in New Lenox.

“Thanks to the Golf Outing committee and volunteers, we are able to provide the highest quality, personalized healthcare to the people of  Will County and the entire region through our surgical services at our new hospital that is modern and designed for tomorrow’s technology,” said Larry Johnson, Vice President of the Silver Cross Foundation.

Advanced Surgical Technology

Surgical Services at the new Silver Cross Hospital is located in the Procedural Care Unit (PCU), which is one integrated area comprised  of surgery, endoscopy, interventional cardiology and radiology procedures.  Located on the second floor of the new hospital, each of these areas is conveniently adjacent to the PCU Family Lounge and also many private pre/post procedural rooms.  The PCU has been designed for flexibility, operational efficiencies, and advanced technology.

“Consolidating these surgical services into a central location minimizes unnecessary patient movement and promotes quality outcomes and safety,” said Marybeth Antone, Administrative Director of Surgery and Cardiology.

In designing the PCU, Silver Cross has brought in some of the latest and greatest technology available. There is special green surgical lighting which makes seeing patient’s anatomy easier. Also each of the 11 state-of-the-art operating rooms have overhead equipment and video booms to improve procedural ergonomics and digital imaging.  Staff in 6 of the ORs are able to browse through images that can be displayed on several monitors hanging from the ceiling so that everyone involved in the case knows what is going on.

Silver Cross also has two daVinci robotic surgical systems designed to facilitate complex surgery using a minimally invasive approach. The system is controlled by a surgeon from a console that is commonly used for prostatectomies and increasingly for cardiac valve repair and gynecologic surgical procedures.   Silver Cross is one of only 15 hospitals in the nation performing Single-Site Hysterectomy using the davinci robot.  This new procedure is performed with just one single incision through the belly button so patients can get back to life faster without the usual recovery following major surgery.

In addition, Silver Cross is one of the few hospitals in the area offering advanced technologies to extend the treatment window for stroke up to 8 hours. Neuro interventional radiologists and neurosurgeons are available to treat strokes in our state-of-the-art biplane angiography suite. The biplane is recognized for its effectiveness in diagnosing and treating stroke. The system shows an extremely precise 3-D image of the blood vessels in the brain and permits the neuroendovascular surgeon to treat the stroke patient in several ways.

The new Silver Cross Hospital also has anesthesia Pyxis (medication) machines, a negative pressure endoscopy lab to accommodate bronchoscopies and Bronchial Endoscopic Ultrasound which are currently performed in an OR, and an automatic glide system for instrument loading in Sterile Processing.
