New Lenox, IL (Sept. 3, 2013)— Silver Cross Hospital supported the Catholic Charities Daybreak Center’s Back to School Fair on August 1 by providing physicals to some of the over 4,000 area children who attended the event in the recreational center at the University of St. Francis.

For the past 21 years, Silver Cross has partnered with Catholic Charities Daybreak Center’s Back-to-School Fair that benefits low-income families living in Will County with children through 18 years old. During the Fair, 13 Silver Cross employees volunteered their time and talents to immunize 35 children and provide 96 physicals, 51 asthma screenings and 17 lead screenings. Also families received dental exams and cleanings, vision screenings, free haircuts, and school supplies.
“Silver Cross is proud to partner with Catholic Charities Daybreak Centerfor the Back to School Fair to help area children prepare for the upcoming school year and improve the quality of life for the residents in our community,” said Leslie Newbon, Senior Community Relations Coordinator.
Parents had to bring identification, proof of income such as a W-2 form or paycheck stub and verification of address for their children to receive supplies and health-care services.
The fair also featured face painting, music, raffles and games so parents could visit booths to gather information and talk with representatives from nearly 50 local agencies, regarding job training and employment opportunities, nutrition and health, affordable childcare, housing, voter registration, Head Start, crime and gang prevention.
