New Lenox, IL (Sept. 17, 2013)— To help seniors maintain their independence and avoid future risk of falling, Dr. Thomas Lee, family practice physician, will host a free program—A Delicate BalanceTuesday, Oct. 8. The free event will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center, Pavilion A, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Families are invited to learn about what causes a fall or loss of balance, how to identify areas of weakness, how to safeguard the home and other helpful tips to avoid harmful falls. Free Fall & Balance screenings will be offered by physical therapists with The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago at Silver Cross before and after the program. AHA Healthcare Provider CPR Class
Silver Cross Hospital provides an AHA Healthcare Provider CPR Class for LPNs, RNs, Paramedics, EMTs, and CNAs. This class teaches one and two person, infant, child and adult CPR as well as rescue from choking. Depression Screening & Program
Everyone experiences stress, sadness and anxiety from time to time – it's part of life. These feelings often happen when you lose a job, children move away from home, during divorce, with a death in the family, or during retirement. But when changes in mood and behavior interfere with one’s ability to work, sleep, eat, and enjoy once pleasurable activities, it could be a sign of depression. On National Depression Screening Day, Thursday, Oct. 10, Silver Cross Hospital Behavioral Health Services will offer a free, anonymous questionnaire assessing risk for mood and anxiety disorders and a confidential meeting with a behavioral health professional. At 4 p.m. Dr. Shivkumar Pandian, psychiatrist, will discuss the seriousness of depression and treatments available. Family members welcome.
