Students spent the morning with physicians, nurses, clinical and support staff from the emergency department, diabetes center, laboratory, pharmacy, sterile processing, procedural care unit (surgery), wound care center, and Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago at Silver Cross observing real-life healthcare scenarios and discussing numerous career opportunities in the medical field. The annual event allows the students to determine if what they think they would like to study, is the right fit for them.
Under the supervision of their classroom instructor and hospital managers, the students visited various areas including surgery, nursing, lab and the emergency department.
“By partnering with Joliet Township Central and West High Schools, we remain committed to the communities we serve,” said Paul Pawlak, President and CEO of Silver Cross Hospital. “We understand the importance of exposing today’s students to a variety of healthcare professions; and by preparing these future leaders to select a profession, we assist in supporting our local communities to flourish.”
