Silver Cross Hospital

The way you should be treated.™

Hospital also chosen by readers for Best Birthing Center and Emergency Department

Silver Cross Hospital was once again recognized in 22nd Century Media’s second annual Southwest Choice Awards as the Best Hospital, Best Emergency Room, and Best Place to Have a Baby.  Over 180,000 readers of The Frankfort Station, The Homer Horizon, The Lockport Legend, The Mokena Messenger, The New Lenox Patriot, The Orland Park Prairie and The Tinley Junction were asked to select their favorite local businesses in more than 140 categories from Feb. 2 to 28 using the ballot inside their newspaper or at www.22ndcenturymedia.com

“We are extremely honored and proud to have been chosen in these three prestigious categories,” said Peggy Gricus, Vice President of Patient Care and Chief Nursing Officer at Silver Cross Hospital. “For life’s unexpected illnesses and injuries to the most precious deliveries – and everything in between, you can count on our entire team at Silver Cross to provide you and your family with the safest, highest quality, personalized care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

Since opening the doors to the new Hospital at I-355 and Route 6 in 2012, Silver Cross remains dedicated to treating patients the way they should be treated with new services, enhanced expertise and safe, accessible care.
“For many, this care starts in the Emergency Department – either at the New Lenox Hospital or our Silver Cross Emergency Care Center at 143rd St. and Bell Rd. in Homer Glen,” said Gricus.  “With over 70,000 visits annually, both facilities are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and staffed by the same group of board certified emergency medicine physicians trained to treat patients of all ages.” Patients are treated in private rooms with ample space for family members.  To help expedite care, lab and imaging services are conveniently located nearby.  The Silver Cross Emergency Department is designated as a Level II Trauma Center, Primary Stroke Center, and recognized by IDPH to care for pediatric patients.  Silver Cross also has an Urgent Care center at 1051 Essington Rd. on Joliet’s west side to provide after-hours medical care for sudden illnesses and injuries that don’t quite warrant a trip to the Emergency Department.  At the Silver Cross Urgent Care, there is no waiting and you can reserve a time to be seen online through SCHedule Now at www.silvercross.org. Using SCHedule Now, patients can also book appointments for mammograms, X-rays, blood draws and other tests and therapies at the Hospital and several satellite locations.  For patients who don’t quite warrant a trip to the ED but need to see a physician after-hours, they can also talk with a doctor via phone or video 24/7/365 for just $49 per consultation. “You may also be surprised to learn that nearly half of all babies born in Will County are born at Silver Cross Hospital; more than 3,000 last year alone,” Gricus adds.

Silver Cross has combined cutting-edge medical technology with spa-like amenities to make the birthing experience all the more memorable.  With 12 luxurious birthing suites designed for labor, delivery and recovery, parents have the convenience of staying in the same room through recovery followed by a stay in one of 30 private mother-baby suites.  Each suite is fully-equipped with a bathroom with a shower and immersion tub to help with labor pains, blanket warmer, refrigerator, wireless internet access, flat screen TV system, and a comfortable sofa-sleeper so family members can stay around the clock.  For deliveries requiring surgery, there are two complete cesarean suites and one more opening this year. To ensure that even the tiniest patients have access to the very best care, Silver Cross has a Level II Nursery with extended capabilities.  This means that few babies ever need to be transferred to specialized neonatal care centers.  Parents can feel confident knowing that Silver Cross has neonatologists from Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago as well as OB/GYNs and anesthesiologists available in the hospital at all times.  And if needed, Lurie Children’s pediatric cardiologists can analyze a baby’s echocardiogram in real time through a video linkage with Silver Cross.
