The Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission has allocated $8,000 worth of scholarships to the Community Service Council of Will County.  Eight $1,000 scholarships were given to Emily D’Amic, Governors State;   Selena Aguilar, Joliet Junior College;   Dalia Contreras,  Joliet Junior College;   Angela Camargo, Joliet Junior College;   Izamar Gonzalez, Governors State;  Maria Flores, Joliet Junior College; Alejandro Reyes, Joliet Junior College; and Mario Reyes, Joliet Junior College at a banquet held on April 18.

“The Community Service Council is thankful to the Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission,” said  ­­ John Zalanka, Secretary and Board Member of the Community Service Council of Will County.  “By providing scholarships to local students to further their education, we are helping the children from our community improve the quality of their life.” 

The Community Service Council awards scholarships to students who demonstrate good grades and community service. With the help of Silver Cross’ Healthy Community Commission, they grant new scholarships to eight deserving individuals. Scholarship recipients must live within the zip codes 60432, 60433, 60436 and 60441. 

Since 2008, the Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission has provided over $2 million in scholarships and grants to create a stronger, healthier future for the residents of the eastside of Joliet.  To learn more about the Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission, visit www.silvercross.org.
