Negotiations with VA Moving Forward
Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission is pleased with Progress
Joliet, IL (Oct. 19, 2010)—Silver Cross Hospital and the Veteran’s Administration (VA) have furthered their negotiations on the sale of the Emergency Department to the VA. The VA hopes to establish a community based outpatient clinic on the Silver Cross campus after the hospital relocates to New Lenox in 2012. The parties have reached verbal agreement-in-principle on significant terms which are being memorialized in an Offer to Sell contract.
“I am thrilled with the progress that is being made,” said Margie Woods, Chair of the Healthy Community Commission at Silver Cross Hospital. The Commission is an advisory group of community residents and hospital executives that are charged with guiding the re-development of the current campus. “Our veteran’s deserve this. They have sacrificed on behalf of all of us, and it’s our turn to help them out,” Ms. Woods continued. Ms. Woods also complimented Senator Durbin, Senator Burris, Congresswoman Halvorson and Congresswoman Biggert for their collaboration and support for the project.
There remains significant work before a final agreement is signed. The Veteran’s Administration must assure that it fulfills all the legal requirements prior to closing including compliance with environmental, security and historic preservation acts. Executives from Silver Cross Hospital are hopeful that negotiations will be completed in the next several months.
“If all goes according to plan, the VA would be able to take possession of the building shortly after the hospital moves”, said Paul Pawlak, President and Chief Executive Officer at Silver Cross Hospital.
