Joliet, IL (October 21, 2010) — Along with 2,000 men and women of all ages wearing a variety of pink apparel, the Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health employees participated in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at Centennial Park Soccer Field in Orland Park on October 17.

“As breast health clinicians, we felt it was important to support the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk since we interact with many women daily educating them on their breast health and helping those with cancer fight the disease,” said Marci Vasiliades, Manager of the Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health. “We also wanted to help raise awareness for women to get their annual mammograms and support finding a cure for breast cancer.”

Participants in this year’s walk raised $200,000 to help women learn the importance of early detection and treatment and eliminate breast cancer.

The 11th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk brings the entire community together to celebrate breast cancer survivors, educate women about the importance of reducing their cancer risk by getting their annual mammograms, and raise funds for lifesaving research and support programs to further fight against breast cancer.

For the past four years, Orland Park has hosted "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer," a 5-kilometer noncompetitive walk, one of 12 held in the state of Illinois.

Since 1993, six million walkers across the United States have collected more than $400 million to help fight breast cancer through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events. To date, there are 164 Strides events scheduled throughout the country. Together, we are making strides towards a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

About the Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health
The Center for Women’s Health represents a unique concept in women’s healthcare. Designed in a spa-like environment, the Center focuses on putting women at the center of their healthcare, providing quality and efficient services including digital mammography, breast biopsy and ultrasound, bone densitometry and heart screenings that fit the needs and lifestyle of every woman. The Center is located on the Silver Cross replacement hospital campus at I-355 and Route 6 in New Lenox.

During its first year, the Center performed approximately 13,000 total exams, including digital mammograms, ultrasounds, bone density screenings, labs and breast biopsies. For breast health services, the Center has performed over 9,000 mammograms, and 153 breast biopsies, which 51 of these were confirmed cases of breast cancer.

To celebrate its first year anniversary, the Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health is offering screening mammograms for $100 for women who call to make an appointment before the end of the year. With an order from their doctor for a screening mammogram, women can then schedule their test at the Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health in New Lenox and receive their results within 24 hours.  The $100 screening mammogram includes the radiologist fee. Cash, check and credit cards will be accepted at time of appointment—insurance will not be billed.  Please mention this SPECIAL MAMMOGRAM when you call (815) 740-7076 to schedule your appointment with your doctor’s order.  Don’t have a doctor?  Call 1-888-660-HEAL for a free referral.
