Silver Cross Offering Free Diabetes Educational Fest November 13
Joliet, IL (October 27, 2010)- The Silver Cross Diabetes Center will host a Fall Festival on Saturday, Nov. 13. The free event will be held from 8 a.m. to Noon in the Conference Center at Silver Cross Hospital, 1200 Maple Rd., Joliet. Convenient parking and complimentary shuttle service are available at the hospital’s Keck Emergency Pavilion entrance.
“Since 1996, we have helped thousands of people with diabetes and their family members to live with this chronic disease, that if not cared for appropriately, could lead to heart disease, blindness and amputation,” says Patsy Harris, R.N., program director for the Silver Cross Diabetes Center. “Holding our annual fall event is just one of the ways we are committed to improving the quality of life for our patients and the residents of the southwest suburbs living with diabetes.”
Diabetes information and product booths will open at 8 a.m. and participants can be screened for high blood pressure and cholesterol. No fasting is required. At 8:30 a.m., Dr. Jose Penaherrera, internal medicine physician and medical director of the Silver Cross Diabetes Center, will present What’s New in Diabetes Management. At 9:30 a.m., Tina Powers, registered dietitian & certified diabetes educator, will present Take Control- Living Healthy with Diabetes.
From 9 to11:30 a.m., experts will be available to answer questions on the following two topics: Watch Your Step- learn about taking care of your feet and Enhance Your View- discussion on eye health and current treatments.
From 10:30 a.m. to Noon, Silver Cross Nutrition Services will hold free diabetic-friendly cooking demonstrations. Raffle prizes and refreshments will be available.
