Silver Cross Physician to Lead State Bariatric Surgery Association
Christopher Joyce, M.D., Elected as President of IABS
Joliet, IL (November 17, 2010)- Oakbrook resident Christopher Joyce, M.D., bariatric surgeon with Silver Cross Hospital, was elected as President of the Illinois Association of Bariatric Surgeons (IABS) at the Association’s meeting held October 28 in Chicago. With 75 members, IABS is comprised of bariatric surgery physicians dedicated to advancing the art and science of bariatric surgery. IABS is a local chapter of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

“I am honored to be elected by my peers and welcome the opportunity to collaborate with them to enhance bariatric surgery programs throughout the state of Illinois,” says Christopher Joyce, M.D., President of the Illinois Association of Bariatric Surgeons and medical director with Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery (BMI Surgery) at Silver Cross Hospital.
As an experienced member of the Illinois Association of Bariatric Surgeons, Dr. Joyce specializes in weight loss surgery. He performed the first open and laparoscopic gastric bypass, LAP-BAND™ and REALIZE™ and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy surgeries at Silver Cross Hospital and in Will and Grundy Counties. And, he founded and developed BMI-Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Silver Cross Hospital, which has been recognized as a Bariatric Center of Excellence® by the American Society of Bariatric Surgery as well as a Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery℠ by Blue Cross Blue Shield. Together with his partner, Dr. Brian Lahmann, Dr. Joyce has performed over 2,000 surgeries helping patients win their personal battles with obesity and enjoy happier, healthier, longer lives.
Christopher Joyce, M.D., F.A.C.S., is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He received his medical degree in 1986 from Loyola University Medical Center. Dr. Joyce completed a general surgery residency at Loyola University Medical Center where he was both Intern of the Year and Outstanding Chief Resident.
He has served as a Clinical Instructor at Loyola University, Assistant Professor of Surgery at University of Chicago, and Academic Director of Surgery and Chief Academic Officer at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn. Dr. Joyce also served as the Assistant Dean for University of Chicago’s Biological Science Division and Pritzker School of Medicine at MacNeal Hospital.
In addition, he has been named a Top Doctor in Consumers’ Checkbook and he has been recognized for several years as a “Top Doc” for outstanding patient satisfaction by Silver Cross Hospital.
