L-W North, L-W West soccer teams raise money
New Lenox, IL (February 24, 2011)—Hoping to raise awareness about prostate cancer, the varsity boys’ soccer teams at Lincoln-Way North and Lincoln-Way West high schools recently raised $650 to support cancer treatment and research.
The money, raised at a North vs. West soccer game in October, was presented to the Silver Cross Foundation on Feb. 22. Team captains Marc Hein, Joe Hegazin and Alex Arias from North and Eric Staniszewski from West presented the check to Silver Cross Foundation Vice President Lawrence Johnson during the North vs. West boys’ basketball game at North.
This is the second year that the soccer teams from North and West, coached by Mike Murphy and Ryan McAllister, have raised money for Prostate Cancer Awareness.
Proceeds will go to the oncology department at Silver Cross and used for cancer treatment and research.
“Silver Cross is grateful for the support we received from the boys’ soccer teams from Lincoln-Way North and Lincoln-Way West,” said Johnson. “The young men are a real credit to their schools and families. They inspire us at Silver Cross to do our best in serving our patients. The fund provided will support the program and services of our oncology department.”
