Silver Cross Hospital Celebrates Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
Joliet, IL (May 24, 2011)— Silver Cross Hospital acknowledged Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers for their hard work and dedication to the community with a cookout outside the Emergency Department in celebration of National Emergency Medical Services Week (May 22-28).
The Silver Cross Emergency Medical Services System is a network of fire departments, ambulance services, industrial responders, dispatch centers, training centers, hospitals and over 1,500 EMS providers, all committed to providing the highest quality of pre-hospital patient care. Together, Emergency Medical Services and Silver Cross Hospital provide primary and continuing medical education, quality assurance and administrative support to over 30 agencies and their providers.

In addition to the cookout, Silver Cross EMS System held an awards lunch to recognize those who go above and beyond the call of duty. The William E. McConnell award is also given yearly to a provider that exemplifies the passion for EMS that Dr. McConnell personified when starting the EMS system at Silver Cross Hospital. Al Bengtsson, EMS Director for Lemont Fire Protection District was awarded this year for his service.
