Baseball Game Interrupted with Quick Trip to Homer Glen Emergency Center
Lincoln-Way East High School junior Jacob Hickey was struck in the hand by a baseball during a recent game. Instantly his hand was split open and began bleeding as a result of the impact of the ball. Fearful of a fracture, Jacob’s parents drove him to the Silver Cross Free-Standing Emergency Care Center at 143rd St and Bell Rd. in Homer Glen.
“Although I was bleeding a lot, I was really impressed at how quickly the nurses and doctor took care of me,” said Frankfort resident Jacob Hickey. After undergoing an initial assessment, Hickey had an X-ray, which helped his healthcare team determine that he only needed stitches.
Hickey’s physician was Dr. Daniel Checco, Medical Director at the Silver Cross Free-Standing Emergency Care Center. “Dr. Checco and the entire nursing team were great. They made me feel at ease and gave me excellent care,” Hickey said.
Sports injuries are commonly seen by the staff. “Each week we see many young people present to the emergency care center with a variety of sports injuries- from bleeding wounds to broken bones to concussions,” said Dr. Checco. “Parents can rest assured that our Hospital board-certified emergency medicine physicians and nurses are equipped to provide high-quality care for these injuries.”
“It was so comforting to receive real emergency care with almost no wait,” said Jacob’s mother Laura Hickey. “My family and I highly recommend the Silver Cross Free-Standing Emergency Care Center in Homer Glen because we received excellent service and care so close to home.”
