Silver Cross Surgeon Named International Delegate for Niti Surgical Solutions’ World Conference for Compression Anastomosis
Dr. Reza Gamagami appointed to consortium to identify colon surgery best practices
New Lenox, IL (March 27, 2012)— In January 2012, NiTi Surgical Solutions appointed Silver Cross Hospital surgeon Reza Gamagami, M.D., as an international delegate for NiTi’s World Conference for Compression Anastomosis (WCCA), a consortium to examine compression anastomosis, which is the connection of two parts of the colon after resection surgery.
For the past few years, researchers and surgeons like Dr. Gamagami have been using and studying NiTi’s ColonRing™. ColonRing™ is a medical device that applies gentle pressure to the two sections of the colon until they completely and naturally grow back together, at which time the device is expelled from the body. These surgeons and researchers have learned a great deal about compression anastomosis and the best practices that facilitate optimal outcomes. Key members of this group from around the world have been identified to compile and refine the data they have collected.
Due to his expertise in colon surgery and the use of this device, Dr. Gamagami was invited to participate in WCCA. The group will work together to help identify problems, find solutions, refine procedures, define best practices, and educate others.
“I am honored to participate in the international NiTi WCCA consortium,” said Dr. Reza Gamagami, general and colorectal surgeon with Progressive Surgical Associates, who performs all in-hospital surgeries exclusively at Silver Cross Hospital. “By collaborating best practices with other physicians from around the globe, it can only enhance the colon health of my patients who reside in the surrounding communities.”
Dr. Gamagami recently presented at the Third Annual General Surgery Update in Las Vegas on the topic of anastomosis. He was the first in the Joliet and New Lenox area to use the ColonRing™ in colon surgery patients, and has experienced superior surgical outcomes.
