Silver Cross Hospital Wins National Marketing Awards
Recognized Among the Nation’s Elite in the 2012 Aster Awards Competition
Joliet, IL (May 4, 2012)—Honored for excellence in advertising in the 2012 Aster Awards, Silver Cross Hospital received three Gold Awards in this year’s competition.
The Aster Awards, one of the largest national competitions of its kind, is hosted by Marketing Healthcare Today Magazine and Creative Images, Inc. This elite program recognizes outstanding healthcare professionals for excellence in their advertising/ marketing efforts for the calendar year 2011.
Silver Cross Hospital’s Marketing and Community Relations team led by Ruth Colby (Chicago resident) and Tracy Simons (New Lenox resident) won a Gold Award for the hospital’s I.C.E. Smartphone App. The I.C.E. (In Case of Emergency) application creates one central location to conveniently store information about your health conditions and current medications along with emergency contacts on a Droid or iPhone. The App was created in partnership with Elgin marketing firm DC Interactive.
The Hospital also received Gold Awards for its Birthing Center website (www.silvercross.org/specialdeliveries.org) built in partnership by Silver Cross Hospital’s Ben Hernandez (Orland Park resident) and Imaginary Landscape located in Chicago and Commemorative Book memorializing the building of the new Silver Cross Hospital, which opened on Feb. 26, 2012 at I-355 and Route 6 in New Lenox. Silver Cross worked hand in glove with MacKenzie Brown Design in Chicago to publish the book, which is available in the Hospital’s Childerguild Gift Shop.
“It was an honor to have Silver Cross Hospital participate in the 2012 Aster Awards Competition. They placed in the top 5% of the nation for advertising excellence,” said Melinda R. Lucas, Aster Awards Program Coordinator. “The quality of this year’s entries went well beyond the judges’ expectations.”
The 2011 Aster Awards received nearly 3,000 entries from across the United States as well as Canada and South America. Participant’s entries competed against similar-sized organizations in their category. Entries must score at least in the top 16% to receive an award. Judging criteria includes creativity, layout and design, functionality, message effectiveness, production quality and overall appeal.
All winners are posted on the Aster Awards website (www.AsterAwards.com), as well as published in Marketing Healthcare Today, a national healthcare marketing magazine.

In addition to the Aster Awards, Silver Cross recently won four awards in the 29th Annual Advertising Awards competition sponsored by Healthcare Marketing Report. Silver Cross received a Silver Award for the Extreme Makeover Hospital Edition Staff Orientation Video produced by with Moonstep Productions in Joliet, IL; a Bronze Award for its Illumination Gala Grand Opening Invitation created by MacKenzie Brown Design; and Awards of Merit for the Commemorative Book and I.C.E.
