Silver Cross Health Center Awarded "Starry Night" Award for Preservation of the Night Sky
New Lenox, IL (August 14, 2012)—Recently, Silver Cross Health Center in Homer Glen was honored with the “Starry Night” award by the Village of Homer Glen. The International Dark Sky Association recognized the Village of Homer Glen as the 4th International Dark Sky Community in the world and the first municipality in the State of Illinois to be awarded this designation. The Village of Homer Glen received this award for its “exceptional dedication to the preservation of the night sky through the implementation and enforcement of quality lighting codes, dark sky education and citizen support of dark skies.”
Further, Silver Cross Health Center is recognized for being one of the first properties developed using the Village’s Outdoor Lighting Ordinance, contributing to the Village’s receipt of this distinguished award, and for commitment to preserving natural light. This award represents Silver Cross’ valuable service in reducing light pollution, energy consumption, and preservation of natural resources.
