Silver Cross offers Coordinated Approach to Battling Lung Cancer

New Lenox, IL (Aug. 15, 2014)--Jodi Dozier, a longtime smoker, went to her doctor for her annual physical. Dr. Nanette Gormley ordered a chest-X-ray, which showed a nodule on Dozier’s lung that required further testing. She chose to go to Silver Cross Hospital for the CT Lung Scan since it was close to her Orland Park home. While Dozier was checking in for her test, she noticed a flyer for a new Multi-Disciplinary Lung Cancer Conference where she could have several cancer experts on staff at Silver Cross review her medical information and provide a consensus recommendation on a plan of care all in the same day and at no charge. She tucked it in her handbag—just in case!

New Lenox, IL (April 24, 2014)— Dr. Laura Ragauskaite is the first female general surgeon in the state of Illinois to perform a Single-Site™ Cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal surgery) on March 17, 2014 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. Using robotic assistance, Dr. Ragauskaite, board certified general surgeon, and a surgical team at Silver Cross removed the patient’s gallbladder through a tiny one-inch incision in the belly button, leaving only a small, nearly invisible scar.

Free I Matter program helping to save lives

New Lenox, IL (April 8, 2014)— Breast cancer is still the most common type of cancer among women accounting for one in every four cancer diagnoses in women in the United States.  According to the 2013 Will County Community Health Status Assessment Report, in 2009, 20 out of every 100,000 women in Will County died of breast cancer, which is just slightly lower than the state and national average.  However, it has been proven that even more lives can be saved if the tumor is discovered at an early stage, and mammography screening is the most effective way for detecting these malignancies.

New Lenox, IL (March 31, 2014)- The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) has awarded Silver Cross Hospital a three-year re-certification as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence® for the hospital’s weight loss surgery program. The ASMBS Center of Excellence designation recognizes programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric (gastric bypass) weight loss surgery.
