Silver Cross Hospital Expands the Treatment Window for Patients with 24/7 stroke care

New Lenox, IL  (Dec. 20, 2013)--Donna Gudgel woke up at her usual time of 5 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2013.  As she went to get out of bed, she fell to the floor.  A blood clot on the left side of her brain caused a stroke, leaving the 58-year-old unable to move the right side of her body and speak clearly.  Gudgel thought if she lay back down, she would feel better. She didn’t.  Scared, she contacted her supervisor who recognized Gudgel’s slurred speech as something critically wrong and called 911.  Emergency medical services (EMS) from Homer Glen arrived at her home and rushed her to the closest primary stroke center, Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.
