Silver Cross Hospital, Walgreens & Joliet Noon Lions Club to Offer Free Diabetes & Blood Pressure Screenings March 27

New Lenox, IL (March 16, 2012)—In recognition of the American Diabetes Association’s American Diabetes Alert, the Silver Cross Diabetes Center in partnership with the Joliet Noon Lions Club will offer free screenings to detect diabetes on Tuesday, March 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Silver Cross Hospital Pavilion Lobby, 1870 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Participants will be offered a Diabetes Risk Assessment and Blood Glucose Test as well as Walgreens will provide a free blood pressure screening. No fasting is required.

Screening Is Your Best Bet Against Colorectal Cancer

Joliet, IL (March 16, 2012) — There’s a crucial medical test you shouldn’t put off as you leave your 40s. If you are at average risk for colorectal cancer, you should begin screenings at age 50. The rules are a little different for those with chronic inflammatory bowel disease or other risk factors; they may need to begin testing earlier.

Silver Cross Offers Health Screenings in March

New Lenox, IL (March 14, 2010)— Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers today and the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States.  It is often symptom-less in its early and most curable stages.  In honor of National Colon Health month, Silver Cross Hospital is offering Free Colon Cancer Screening Kits throughout the month of March. Beginning at age 50, individuals should begin regular colorectal screenings. Using the kit, you will collect a stool sample in your home and send it to the hospital’s Lab to be tested for blood.  Results are mailed back for patients to share with their physician.  To request a colon cancer kit, visit www.silvercross.org or call 1-888-660-HEAL (4325).

Silver Cross Neurosurgeon Offers Tips to Detect a Brain Injury 

March 14, 2012 (New Lenox, IL)—March is Brain Injury Awareness Month. A brain injury can happen anytime, anywhere, to anyone. In fact, according to the National Brain Injury Association, 1.7 million people will sustain a brain injury each year.  An injury that happens in an instant can bring a lifetime of physical, cognitive and behavior challenges but early, equal and adequate access to care will greatly increase overall quality of life.

Childerguild Gives $50,000 for Silver Cross Birthing Center

Joliet, IL (March 8, 2012)—Recently Childerguild presented Silver Cross with $50,000 to support the hospital’s Women and Infant Services Birthing Center. For the past 102 years, the local charitable organization has donated more than $2.3 million to support women’s and children’s services at Silver Cross Hospital.
