Celebrate Independence Day Safely this July 4th

Joliet, IL (June 27, 2011) —On the 4th of July in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress, setting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation. As always, this most American of holidays will be marked by red, white and blue flags, parades, road trips, fireworks and backyard barbecues across the country. Silver Cross Hospital offers some tips to help you and your loved ones celebrate our nation’s Independence Day safely.

KidneyMobile® to visit Silver Cross, offer free screenings July 27

Silver Cross Renal Centers in partnership with the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois and Northeast Nephrology Consultants will offer free kidney disease screenings Wednesday, July 27 from 12-4 p.m. in the Specialty Care Pavilion Lobby on the Silver Cross Hospital campus, 1300 Copperfield Ave., Joliet.

“Sawyer’s Heart” Donation to Silver Cross Offers Comfort to Others

Joliet, IL (June 23, 2011)To honor the memory of their son Sawyer, who would have been 1-year-old on June 1, his parents donated gifts to Silver Cross Hospital that will provide comfort to other families who lose a child.

Baseball Game Interrupted with Quick Trip to Homer Glen Emergency Center

Lincoln-Way East Student’s Injured Hand Stitched-up at Silver Cross Free-Standing Emergency Care Center

Joliet, IL (June 21, 2011)— Lincoln-Way East High School junior Jacob Hickey was struck in the hand by a baseball during a recent game. Instantly his hand was split open and began bleeding as a result of the impact of the ball.  Fearful of a fracture, Jacob’s parents drove him to the Silver Cross Free-Standing Emergency Care Center at 143rd St and Bell Rd. in Homer Glen.

Silver Cross Offers Health Screenings in July

Joliet, IL (June 21, 2011)— Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. If you are not sure if you are at risk for heart disease, now is the time to find out with a Baseline Cardiac Risk Assessment held in the LaVerne and Dorothy Brown Cardiovascular Institute at Silver Cross Hospital, 1300 Copperfield Ave., Joliet, Silver Cross Health Center in Homer Glen at 12701 W. 143rd St., and Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health, 1870 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox.  This screening includes measurements of total cholesterol including HDL and LDL levels, blood glucose level, triglyceride level, blood pressure and body fat; 12-lead EKG, health and lifestyle evaluation, and a personal phone consultation with a registered cardiac nurse to review results and answer questions.
