Silver Cross Hospital First In Area to Perform State-of-the-Art DSEK Cornea Transplant Surgery
Joliet, IL (June 7, 2011) —In a first for the Will-County area, a surgeon at Silver Cross Hospital is removing patients' diseased layer of the cornea and replacing it with a similar layer of healthy human donor tissue in a surgery called DSEK (Descemet Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty).

Joliet, IL (June 3, 2011)—The knee is the largest joint in the body, so it is no surprise that knee problems develop from everyday wear and tear, overuse, or injury. The upper and lower bones of the knee are separated by two discs (menisci). The upper leg bone (femur) and the lower leg bones (tibia and fibula) are connected by ligaments, tendons, and muscles. The surface of the bones inside the knee joint is covered by articular cartilage, which absorbs shock and provides a smooth, gliding surface for joint movement.
Baseball Game Interrupted with Quick Trip to Homer Glen Emergency Center
Lincoln-Way East High School junior Jacob Hickey was struck in the hand by a baseball during a recent game. Instantly his hand was split open and began bleeding as a result of the impact of the ball. Fearful of a fracture, Jacob’s parents drove him to the Silver Cross Free-Standing Emergency Care Center at 143rd St and Bell Rd. in Homer Glen.
