The Leapfrog Group’s “A” Hospital Safety ScoreSM
Silver Cross Hospital was honored with an “A” Hospital Safety ScoreSM by The Leapfrog Group. This is the highest mark a hospital can receive. The Hospital Safety ScoreSM was calculated using publicly available data on patient injuries, medical and medication errors, and infections. According to The Leapfrog Group, the Hospital Safety ScoreSM is designed to be the first consumer-friendly way of sharing safety data in an easy-to-use format. Each grade reflects how safe that hospital is for patients, and hospitals that receive an A grade have proven to do a better job at protecting patients from harm. The safety measurements the Hospital Safety ScoreSM considers represent the very basic blocks of medical care, such as hand-washing, computerized medication control and nurse staffing levels.

Echocardiography Laboratory Accreditation
Silver Cross Hospital's echocardiography laboratory received a 3-year accreditation by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL). The laboratory is one of the first one thousand echocardiography laboratories in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico to be so recognized for its commitment to high quality patient care and its provision of quality diagnostic testing.

2007 VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence from VHA Inc.
The award honors hospitals for meeting or exceeding national performance standards for clinical care in specific areas. The designation means Silver Cross meets or exceeds stringent quality criteria that demonstrate reliability in delivering bariatric surgical care and better overall outcomes for patients. The Blue Centers designation was developed to help consumers locate quality care for bariatric surgery.

Silver Cross Hospital is the only diabetes center in the greater Joliet area to receive recognition from the American Diabetes Association for its quality self-management education program.

Level II Trauma Designation
Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet is designated as a Level II Trauma Center for Emergency Medical by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Silver Cross also serves as the resource hospital for the Will-Grundy Emergency Medical System, training paramedics from 30 towns for over 30 years.
Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP)
Silver Cross Hospital is certified by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) with having an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP). This recognition formally identifies Silver Cross as a hospital that provides the necessary resources and capabilities to address the emergency needs of critically ill and injured children.
