Joliet, IL (May 9, 2011)—Silver Cross Hospital has been re-certified by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) with having an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP) through 2014. This recognition formally identifies Silver Cross as a hospital that provides the necessary resources and capabilities to address the emergency needs of critically ill and injured children.
Silver Cross achieved the voluntary designation after submitting a comprehensive pediatric plan and undergoing a rigorous site visit on November 15, 2010 by the Illinois Emergency Medical Services for Children Program.
“This recognition is significant because it ensures the community that Silver Cross has demonstrated that we have a skilled staff, as well as state-of-the art facilities, equipment and supplies that are needed to provide a positive life-saving experience for our pediatric patients,” said Dr. Silvio Morales Jr., Medical Director/Chairman of the Emergency Department at Silver Cross Hospital.
As an emergency department designated as a Level II Trauma Center, Silver Cross is staffed 24 hours a day with a team of highly skilled physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and support staff specially trained in the emergency treatment of adults, children and infants. Along with Silver Cross’ recognition as an Emergency Department approved for pediatrics, the hospital has in-house pediatricians 24 hours a day from Children’s Memorial in Chicago to consult when necessary. Further, Silver Cross has provided the residents of Will, Grundy and southern Cook Counties with Level II Trauma services since 1988, and also serves as the resource hospital for the Will-Grundy Emergency Medical System, training paramedics from 30 towns for over 30 years. Silver Cross also has a special laboratory in the Emergency Department that processes results immediately. For more information, visit www.silvercross.org.
