About Silver Cross
Since 1895, Silver Cross has grown from a 33-bed, two-story hospital into an impressive health care network featuring a 304-bed acute care hospital with a team of 400 physicians, 1,600 employees and 500 volunteers. Silver Cross' beautiful campus is located in a residential neighborhood in Joliet, which is about 50 miles south of Chicago in Will County—one of the fastest growing counties in Illinois and the nation. The hospital also serves many communities in Southwestern Cook and Grundy counties as well. In addition to the hospital, Silver Cross has developed an extensive ambulatory network throughout it's region that includes nine satellite facilities with over 90 physicians and an array of outpatient services such as X-ray, MRI, mammography, therapy, dialysis and occupational health care. Silver Cross has also developed partnerships with specialists from Children's Memorial in Chicago; Heartland Cardiovascular Center, the area's largest cardiology medical practice; and Parkview Musculoskeletal Institute, the team physicians for the Chicago White Sox and Joliet JackHammers. In recent years, the hospital has been featured nationally for its clinical quality and patient safety. Silver Cross is the only community hospital in the southwest suburbs named as a 100 Top Hospital® by Solucient, the leading source for healthcare intelligence, for two consecutive years. In the last decade alone, the hospital has invested nearly $150 million by adding an innovative cardiovascular institute, several physician office buildings, a new birthing center, and an outpatient pavilion in addition to renovating many diagnostic and patient care areas including its Francis Pavilion entrance. Silver Cross also reengineered and improved several processes to better treat patients while decreasing their time spent at the hospital. For example, patients see an emergency medicine physician usually within 30 minutes of arrival instead of having to endure a wait that can seem like forever. By 2007, Silver Cross will invest another $25 million to double the size of the emergency department to 30,000 sq. ft with 26 private treatment rooms, 6 dedicated observation beds and expanded diagnostic and reception facilities.
