Silver Cross Meets Vast Majority of State's Criteria
Good news...
As you may have heard, the staff at the Illinois Health Facilities Planning
Board has recently issued a State Agency Report which found that Silver Cross’ plans for a replacement hospital met a vast majority of the state's criteria including that the project is financially sound.
Yesterday, after another thorough review, Silver Cross was very pleased the
state amended their original report to increase the number of positive findings
in the hospital’s application for a replacement hospital.
The state amended their report to acknowledge Silver Cross’ significant $40
million, 10-year charity care commitment. The amended report notes that Silver
Cross met all criteria on mental health beds. The report also recognized the
many alternatives Silver Cross presented to the community to ensure viable
reuse of the current site.
As is the case with nearly all Certificate of Need (CON) applications, there
were some findings where the application is viewed by the staff as technically
out of compliance. This is not unusual, especially for replacement hospitals
because the requirements are so complex. For example, by bringing more services
to the bed side and allowing more room for patients to visit with their
families, the room size was larger than the state standard.
Silver Cross looks forward to presenting its plans directly to the Planning
Board at its meeting on May 20 and 21.
