It’s no secret that Silver Cross Hospital has always cared for the poor and uninsured in Will County. In fact, they have been doing so for 112 years. As a physician on staff at both Silver Cross and the Will County Community Health Center—a division of the Will County Health Department, I am confident that this will not change with their plans to move the campus just three miles away.

Although I have only been on staff the past two years, I can attest to the outstanding care and personal attention given by each and every member of the nursing staff. It’s no wonder Silver Cross has been recognized as one of the top hospitals in the country. All of my patients deliver their babies at Silver Cross. And no matter what their personal or medical situation, each and every one is treated with the utmost respect, dignity and compassion they deserve. This speaks volumes considering that of the hospital’s 2,000 deliveries, 68% of them are mothers who have no insurance or rely on Medicaid. But at Silver Cross, that doesn’t matter.

Silver Cross’ plans include an expanded partnership with Children’s Memorial Hospital that will bring much needed pediatric specialists to the community to care for these newborns and other children in the hospital. Many of my patients will benefit from having these services close to home. And by the time the new hospital is built, there will be ample public transportation from the eastside of Joliet to the new campus. The hospital has assured me of this.

I am proud to be affiliated with such a caring yet progressive organization; especially one that has always cared for and cradled those needing a little extra help and tender loving care.

Sincerely,
Buthaina Jabir, M.D.
