Your SupportI would like to express my support of the Board’s decision to build a replacement hospital for Silver Cross Hospital. I grew up in the Ridgewood neighborhood. My parents still live in our original home. Silver Cross has always been there when we needed them. I started working there when I graduated from high school. I remained there throughout my nurses training and for twenty years after that. I left for a brief time, and now I am back working as a nursing manager. I feel that building this replacement hospital just down the road from our current site is the best way for Silver Cross to continue providing the level of care we have been giving for the past 100 years. I have worked through hospital building projects, and I really feel that building on the original site would be far too disruptive for our patients and employees while trying to care for patients there. The replacement Silver Cross Hospital would create new jobs and opportunities for development in East Joliet. I am very proud that I work at a 100 Top Hospital, and I’m sure this replacement hospital will ensure we can provide that level of care for the next 100 years. I work in the Surgery and Endoscopy departments. There have been many advancements in these areas in the past. The new facility will allow us to move forward and incorporate these advancements into the daily care of our patients. As a resident of Ridgewood, we have seen all of the investments made by Silver Cross Hospital to the east side of Joliet. They have worked with the city and county officials to add streetlights and curbs and to widen and improve roadways. They donated the land at the corner of Route 30 and Walnut Street for the city to build a park. And, they have been the lead sponsor of Silver Cross Field bringing added revenue to the City of Joliet. I am confident that the City of Joliet in partnership with Silver Cross will come up with the best development option for the current hospital site that will benefit all the citizens of Joliet.
