As a 40-year Joliet resident and businessman, I cannot understand why our
government leaders and neighbors would not want to have the very best medical
care available for all the residents of Will County—especially from a
three-time Top 100 nationally recognized hospital—Silver Cross.
Over the past decade I have had to travel to Chicago for medical care because Joliet did not have the healthcare resources that I required. Now, Silver Cross wants to bring more specialists and advanced technology to the people of Joliet area, and we are complaining because the new and improved Silver Cross won’t be within the Joliet city limits. Instead the Silver Cross replacement hospital will be just one mile outside of Joliet, easily accessible to tens of thousands of people off of the new I-355 Tollway, I-80 and Route 6. In their new location the Silver Cross doctors, nurses and other caregivers will be able to help so many more people in our region with the latest technology and treatments in a beautiful facility.
Sure, we will be sad to see them leave our beloved city, but if we want access to quality healthcare for our children and grandchildren for years to come then we must let them go. My wife, Bobbi, and I will gladly go with and support Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox as we have done for many years in Joliet. It is what happens within the walls of the hospital that matters—not where the walls are constructed!
