Change is often difficult but is the true path that leads to progress and improvement. How many difficult choices do we face in our own lives that require change for the betterment of our own families and loved ones? This strikes me as the guiding principle behind Silver Cross Hospital’s recent announcement to build a replacement hospital a few miles east of the current campus. This move is necessary to continue the great care that has made Silver Cross one of the highest performing hospitals in the nation and a destination hospital for many.

The Silver Cross mission states “...we are dedicated to meeting the healthcare needs of all people we serve. We promise to care for patients with competence and compassion, by providing quality services with a personal touch.” This statement is not bounded by geographic borders but rather a commitment to providing the best possible health care for all, both now and into the future. In the short time I have been a part of Silver Cross Hospital, I am truly impressed at how everyone there, regardless of role, is committed to this mission. One thing that will not change with this move is the top notch service, care and compassion that are the Silver Cross experience.

As Prince Philip once said: “Change does not change tradition, it strengthens it. Change is a challenge and an opportunity, not a threat.” Silver Cross Hospital is taking on the challenge of building a replacement hospital a few short miles away and with that comes the opportunity to become even better. What better way to keep up a great tradition!
