The announcement by Silver Cross Hospital to build a replacement hospital was both surprising and exciting. The Board of Trustees of the hospital should be commended for making a decision that is most beneficial for the patients it serves, its medical staff and all employees.
There are many organizations and groups of people that are working hard to make the Will County area a first class place to live, work and play and having the very best in health care is a top priority. With the opening of I-355 expected this fall the growth of the villages to the east of Joliet will be exponential and are fortunate to have a Top 100 hospital in our area.
It is amazing that the management and staff have been able to maintain such high standards while working within the framework that they have, including buildings that are almost 100 years old and patient rooms that are now too small to accommodate the patients, their families and the modern medical equipment that is required to provide top medical care. The nurses, doctors and patients deserve the best environment that can possibly be provided.
In today’s world we have to think and act more globally, and this is also true on the local level. Is it best for “our” world to have the best medical facilities, with an affiliation with Children’s Memorial, or stand pat and witness a decline in our health care because we did not act in a progressive, responsible manner?
In addition to all of the obvious medical benefits, this project will provide construction jobs, along with all the jobs that will be created with the new hospital. I’m sure that once the hospital is open everybody will be pleased with the facility and nobody will have a problem finding it. I support the decision and look forward to 2011.
