East Side wants its fair share
I’m an East Side resident, a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and member of National Hook Up of Black Women. I’m an election judge. I work at Silver Cross Hospital.
I read the article in your Sept. 6 paper “West Side to Ease Growing Pains.” After reading it, I was again upset with the city for its failure to take action on the East Side.
The article stated the city has had a five-year plan to keep institutions that need room to grow in the older part of the city. On Tuesday, the city approved a near west side plan.
I want to know if the East Side will get on the city’s action plan. The plan is five years old, how long does it take? The city has not done any planning or taken action for the East Side. When will the city understand that we pay taxes and work in this community? We worship and vote here. The people of Joliet’s East Side want their fair share. I want to know if the city offered this plan to Silver Cross Hospital. Silver Cross is in an older community. Silver Cross has been committed to residents for over a century. It’s wrong that the city did not make it a priority to make a difference on the East Side. Silver Cross has been a leader in community development; the city should have approached the hospital five years ago.
I’m not pleased with the city announcing that there are more benefits going west. I’m not happy that Silver Cross, a leader in this community, is being taken to task for wanting to provide for the hospital’s future.
At Silver Cross, we care for all people. Our city could learn from us and serve all people.
