Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health Now Open
New Lenox Village Trustee First Digital Mammography Patient
New Lenox Village Trustee Annette Bowden was eager to be among the first patients to experience the new Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health on Oct. 19. Having a sister that died from breast cancer, Bowden knows all too well how important it is to have regular mammography screenings.
Bowden admits that she had been lax in getting her annual mammogram. “ I used to travel to Naperville to get my tests, which at the time was close to where I worked, she says. “But with the opening of the new Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health, not only is it more convenient for me, but also I can be in and out in no time. I now have no excuses.”
The new Center for Women’s Health is located in the Silver Cross Health Center on the Replacement Hospital Campus at Route 6—just across from the I-355 exit in New Lenox. Set in a soothing, spa-like environment, the Center is the first in the region to provide an advanced level of diagnostics coupled with specialized care for women in one convenient location.
Offering a variety of healthcare services designed around a woman’s needs and lifestyle, the Center’s crown jewel is full field digital mammography—the latest breast cancer testing available. “Mammography remains the best method of early breast cancer detection,” said Marci Vasiliades, Manager of the Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health. “However, traditional film-screen mammography is limited in its ability to detect some cancers, especially those occurring in women with radiographically dense breasts.”
In addition to digital mammography, the innovative center offers women diagnostic breast ultrasound and breast biopsies, bone densitometry, and baseline heart screenings.
“Diagnostic test results are available the same day as your appointment and screening results within just 24 hours,” said Vasiliades. “And before you ever leave the Center, you will have the opportunity to consult with a board certified radiologist or meet with a registered nurse to assist with the next steps in your care.”
Silver Cross has also partnered with the American Cancer Society to launch an I Can Cope Breast Cancer Support Group that will meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning Oct. 27. The group will meet in the I Matter educational library located right inside the Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health. For more information or to register to attend the support group, call 1-888-660-HEAL (4325).
“At the Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health, we provide you with healthcare that is centered around women—their needs, concerns, and lifestyle,” says Vasiliades. “It’s a partnership that puts each woman at the center.”
“The Center for Women’s Health is a wonderful new asset not only for New Lenox –but women throughout the region,” said Bowden. “It’s definitely just the tip of the iceberg of what extraordinary services Silver Cross plans to bring to the community when the new hospital campus is complete in 2012.
