New Lenox mayor cheers news of Silver Cross outpatient center
Mayor Tim Baldermann Monday night applauded the announcement that an outpatient cancer center will be located in the new Silver Cross Hospital.
The $21.6 million University of Chicago Medical Cancer Center will be located in the 533,000-square-foot Silver Cross Hospital slated to open in 2012.
The mayor said this is fantastic news that shows new business is still coming to New Lenox despite a slagging economy.
“We are moving forward. Sometimes it seems like a snails pace but we are headed in the right direction as other places are losing business,” the mayor said.
The center would offer chemotherapy, radiation and experimental cancer therapies working in conjunction with their main campus in Chicagos Hyde Park neighborhood.
The new $400 million, 70-acre, 289-room Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox replaces the outdated Joliet campus, built in 1895 three miles away.
