Choosing where you’ll deliver your baby is no small decision. At Silver Cross Hospital, we understand your concerns. That’s why we are creating a very unique place for your special arrival—the Women and Infant Services Birthing Center in the new Silver Cross Hospital.

Nothing is more precious than the gift of life. And that’s why we’re so proud of our Birthing Center. We are bringing together cutting-edge medical technology with spa-like amenities to make your baby’s birth all the more memorable. When you have your child at Silver Cross, you automatically become part of our family.

Our 12 luxurious birthing suites are designed for Labor, Delivery and Recovery so you have the convenience of staying in the same room through recovery followed by a stay in one of our 30 private mother-baby suites.

Everything for Your Comfort
Everything will be ready for you from the moment you arrive--even complimentary valet parking and shuttle service. Each of our birthing suites will have soft lighting and soothing décor designed to put you at ease with thoughtful touches you’ll appreciate. The moment you walk into one of our suites you’ll feel at home. Every private birthing suite will have an easily adjustable labor bed and labor ball available.

With other amenities like private bathrooms with showers and immersion tubs, blanket warmers, in-room refrigerators, CD/DVD players and a gift bag, you will feel pampered immediately. In addition, each room will include wireless internet access, a 30” flat screen TV system, and family-friendly décor. There is also a comfortable sofa-sleeper so family members can stay around the clock.

We will also offer a variety of pain relief methods including breathing techniques, medications and epidurals provided by an anesthesiologist available in-house 24 hours a day.

Everything for Your Peace of Mind
Our outstanding obstetrician/gynecologists and experienced medical team will be on alert to help at any time. Upon your arrival, you’ll be “partnered” with a specially trained obstetrical nurse certified in electronic fetal monitoring who’ll assist you through delivery. Our new unit also features mother/baby couplet care, which means that the same experienced nurse will care for both mother and baby until it is time to go home. This ensures continuity in care and improved communication between the patient, family, nursing staff and physicians. At Silver Cross, we also have four Internationally-certified lactation consultants available for support to new moms who choose to breastfeed their babies. LEVEL 2 Skilled Newborn Nursery
Pregnancies range from the routine to the delicate and our staff is ready to take care of problems that may arise. In addition to a typical nursery, the Birthing Center at Silver Cross will have a Level 2 skilled infant care nursery with specialized staff.

State-of-the-art medical equipment will be set up and ready inside the birthing suite’s cabinetry, if needed.

Neonatal/Pediatric Specialists
In addition to our superb nursing staff, Silver Cross Hospital has partnered with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago to ensure that a specially trained neonatologist or pediatric hospitalist is onsite 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Having a doctor from Children’s present is a benefit since they can provide expert specialty care to newborns that may otherwise need to be transported to Chicago or a specialty center outside the community. And if your baby needs follow-up specialist care, the Lurie Children's is conveniently located in Pavilion A, which is connected to the New Hospital.

Cesarean Suite
While the birthing suites will be fully equipped for labor, delivery, and recovery, some deliveries require surgery. And that’s why we have two complete cesarean suites in our new Birthing Center.

Telemedicine
Another feature offered by the Silver Cross Birthing Center is the telemedicine program in conjunction with the Lurie Children's cardiologists. Telemedicine is a cutting edge diagnostic tool that allows pediatric cardiology specialists to analyze a baby’s echocardiogram in real time through a video linkage with Silver Cross.

Online Nursery
New parents can announce the arrival of their newborn on our website.If you choose to participate in this free service provided by Bella Baby, your baby’s photo will be taken while you’re in the hospital and posted on the Silver Cross Online Nursery for family and friends to share in your joy.
