Pulmonary Program

Pictured: Carolyn Donners, a patient who attends the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center at Silver Cross Hospital, works with an exercise physiologist on gaining strength and maintaining proper form. “The staff makes me feel special here,” said Carolyn. “They are very interested in helping me accomplish my goals. If you need assistance with the equipment, they are here for you in a heartbeat!”
Comprehensive Services
When every breath is an effort, nothing is easy. People with respiratory disease lose sleep, miss work and school, and limit their activities. Now, hundreds of pulmonary patients are breathing easier due to our individually-tailored, multi-disciplinary approach at Silver Cross Hospital.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program
The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is for adults with chronic pulmonary or breathing problems, such as COPD (Chronic Pulmonary Obstructive Disease) and emphysema. The 10 to 18 week program improves the patient's quality of life through respiratory therapy, occupational therapy, exercise planning, nutrition counseling, stress management, and pharmaceutical advice. A physician's referral is required to attend the program.
Pulmonary Support Group
A free Pulmonary Support Group for adults with asthma, COPD, chronic bronchitis or other respiratory diseases meets every third month at Silver Cross Hospital. Special speakers discuss the disease, treatment options and lifestyle changes. There is also time for mutual support and socializing. Register to attend at 1-888-660-HEAL (4325).
Smoking Cessation Classes
Smoking Cessation Classes are available through the American Lung Association Freedom from Smoking program. To register, call the Will County Health Department at (815) 727-8769.
