Silver Cross Hospital Recognized as “Top Performer on Key Quality Measures”
New Lenox, IL (Nov. 8, 2013)—Silver Cross was recently named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. The Hospital is one of 35 in Illinois to be recognized for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care patients. The announcement came with the recent release of The Joint Commission’s “Improving America’s Hospitals” annual report.
“We are proud to receive the distinction of being a Joint Commission Top Performer on Key Quality Measures,” says Paul Pawlak, president and chief executive officer at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, IL. “Our employees and medical staff understand that what matters most to our patients is safe, effective care. That’s why we have made a strong commitment to positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes.”
“Silver Cross Hospital has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to quality improvement and they should be proud of their achievement,” says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president and chief executive officer, The Joint Commission. “We have much to celebrate this year. Nearly half of our accredited hospitals have attained or nearly attained the Top Performer distinction. This truly shows that we are approaching a tipping point in hospital quality performance that will directly contribute to better health outcomes for patients.”
One of 1,099 hospitals in the U.S., Silver Cross earned the distinction of Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. The ratings are based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2012 calendar year. The list of Top Performer organizations increased by 77% from last year and it represents 33% of all Joint Commission-accredited hospitals reporting accountability measure performance data for 2012.
To be designated as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures, Silver Cross had to:
- Achieve cumulative performance of 95% or above across all reported accountability measures,
- Achieve performance of 95% or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there are at least 30 denominator cases,
- And have at least one core measure set that has a composite rate of 95% or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures have a performance rate of 95% or above.
A 95% score means Top Performers including Silver Cross performed an evidence-based practice such as giving aspirin at arrival for heart attack patients or giving antibiotics one hour before surgery at least 95 of every 100 opportunities.
In addition to the Top Performer on Key Quality Measures, Silver Cross has received The Gold Seal of Approval™ and advanced certification in stroke as a Primary Stroke Center from The Joint Commission. To learn more, visit www.qualitycheck.org or www.silvercross.org.
