Silver Cross Offers Childbirth Education Classes in January

Birthing Center Tours
Silver Cross Hospital will offer free Birthing Center Tours for expectant families at 1900 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. The tours will be offered Saturdays and Sundays at 1:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, Jan. 14 and 28 at 7 p.m. to help parents prepare and expect the best from their birthing experience in the hospital’s new luxurious birthing suites.
A certified lactation consultant will teach the basics of breastfeeding, including establishing a milk supply, breast pumps, avoiding difficulties and more on Wednesday, Jan. 8 and 22 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Silver Cross Hospital, Pavilion A, Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Cost is $15 per person.
Breastfeeding Support Group
The Silver Cross Birthing Center’s certified lactation consultants will host this free support group meeting on Monday, Jan. 13 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. A Spanish-Speaking Support Group will be held on Friday, Jan. 24 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. All meetings will take place in the Hospital’s Conference Center, Pavilion A, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. New mothers have many questions and concerns about breastfeeding in the weeks leading up to and after birth. Breastfeeding support groups are a wonderful way to exchange information and experiences. Infants are welcome to attend. First time participants should register to attend.
Silver Cross Hospital will offer a free Prenatal Childbirth class for expectant mothers with Medicaid or no insurance. The two-session class will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and 28, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Silver Cross Hospital, Pavilion A, Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Led by a registered labor and delivery nurse, participants will learn about labor, delivery, recovery, post partum and other birthing options. Class size is limited and registration is mandatory.

And if needed, Lurie Children’s pediatric cardiologists areavailable toanalyze a baby’s echocardiogram in real time through a video linkage with Silver Cross.
