“Ed Czerkies benevolent generosity has helped to improve the lives of so many in Will County and around the world,” comments Simons.  “Despite hardship and loss, Ed still finds a way to spread hope and joy serving as a role model for future generations.”

Childerguild’s Long Tradition of supporting Silver Cross

Founded in 1910, by 13 benevolent women who had no children of their own, Childerguild was formed to benefit Silver Cross Hospital’s obstetric and pediatric departments at Silver Cross Hospital.   Today, Childerguild raises funds by operating the hospital’s gift shop and hosting a dinner dance.  The annual tradition of the Childerguild Ball began in the spring of 1928 at Dellwood Park in Lockport.  In 1940, the date was changed to Thanksgiving weekend so college students could attend.  After more than 65 years, the date was once again moved to the Saturday before Thanksgiving to accommodate guests who traveled out of town to be with their families for the holiday.   2018 marks the 90th anniversary of the premier event of the holiday season which is still going strong thanks to the commitment of the members of Childerguild and to the many friends of the hospital who contribute to make this event a great success year after year. This year, the Childerguild Ball Co-Chairs are Sheryl Chapman and Pamela Resutko. The Ball Committee includes Pat Crowley, Karen Eckert, Phyllis Etheridge, Barb Giegerich, Robin Hartney, Verna Kitchen, and Kay Langlois.
