Silver Cross Hospital Supports Will County WorkForce Development Summer Internships
Joliet, IL (September 22, 2010)— For two months Silver Cross Hospital has supported the Will County Workforce Development Internship Program that is administered by the Workforce Investment Board of Will County and part of the Illinois Y.E.S. Initiative program.

“The interns were offered a valuable experience and great opportunity allowing them real insight into careers in healthcare. And we were happy to have extra help in various departments throughout the hospital,” said Laura Valencik, Director of Volunteer Services for Silver Cross Hospital.

The Illinois Y.E.S. Initiative is a program made possible by the funds available from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Illinois Department of Human Services is the responsible state agency and Workforce Services Division of Will County is its authorized agent administering this program. The program is intended to provide meaningful work at local participating work sites that agree to mentor and supervise the worker-trainees to ensure skill and experience acquisition adequate to pursue employment. Silver Cross Hospital is one of 35 work sites participating in this year’s program which has so far put to work 133 unemployed or underemployed parents (ages 16-24) of minor children and youth ages 16 through 24.
