“The Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission is honored to receive the Friendship Award from the Senior Services Center of Will County,” said Margie Woods, Chair of the Healthy Community Commission. “We are proud to work together with Senior Services to improve the quality of life for area residents, particularly those of senior citizens.”
The Friendship Award recognizes organizations that have supported the Senior Services Center of Will County’s mission to enhance the lives of Will County’s senior population through its services and programs. The Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission gave a $40,000 grant to the Senior Services Center to provide additional programs to enhance the lives of area senior citizens.
In addition, Silver Cross Hospital has provided the following services for several years to the Senior Services Center of Will County including quarterly blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screenings, Colon cancer kits, and educational programs about asthma and heart disease. In addition, Silver Cross Home Health and Senior Services employees have served as board members for the Senior Services Center of Will County.
Silver Cross’s Healthy Community Commission is a not-for-profit organization of community members. The Commission is focusing on the re-development of the Silver Cross Hospital campus, education and workforce development, and to improve the quality life of the residents of Will County, particularly those on the east side of Joliet.
To continue to bring an unrivaled healthcare experience to patients and families of Will and South Cook Counties, Silver Cross is building a replacement hospital in New Lenox. Construction on the state-of-the-art 289-bed hospital in 65 percent complete and slated to open in February 2010. The new hospital has been designed to better service patients and their family members. The large, private family-friendly rooms will be able to accommodate more procedures at the bedside and provide acuity adaptable care. This means that each room will have the space, supplies and staff to deliver the appropriate level of care to the patient rather than transfer the patient between units as needs change—allowing patients a greater chance to heal faster and go home sooner.
