Silver Cross Offers Health Screenings in November

Joliet, IL (October 24, 2010)—Do you know if you are at risk for heart disease—the number one leading killer of both men and women?  Now is the time to find out with a Baseline Cardiac Risk Assessment.   This screening includes measurements of total cholesterol including HDL and LDL levels, blood glucose level, triglyceride level, blood pressure and body fat; 12-lead EKG, health and lifestyle evaluation, and a personal phone consultation with a registered cardiac nurse to review results and answer questions.  A 12- hour fast is required. Cost is $40.  Screenings are available in three locations:  the LaVerne and Dorothy Brown Cardiovascular Institute at Silver Cross Hospital, 1300 Copperfield Ave., Joliet; Silver Cross Health Center in Homer Glen at 12701 W. 143rd St.; and the Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health, 1870 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Blood Pressure Check
Silver Cross offers free blood pressure checks daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Silver Cross Health Center, 12701 W. 143rd St., Homer Glen. Walk-ins welcomed. For more information, call (708) 364-6337.

Calcium Artery Score  
Silver Cross Hospital offers a quick and painless test using a high speed CT scanner that can measure calcium deposits in the coronary arteries to determine your risk of having a heart attack. A Calcium Artery Score is ideal for men over age 45 and women over age 55, who smoke, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol or a family history of premature coronary artery disease. Osteoporosis Heel Screenings
The Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health will offer Osteoporosis screenings Nov. 17, from 3 to 7 p.m.  Using ultrasound to detect the risk of osteoporosis, we measure for the bone mineral density of your heel. Heel bone is similar to that found in the hip, where fractures occur most often. This screening is $10 and will take place at 1870 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox—on the Silver Cross replacement hospital campus. Premier Cardiovascular Risk Assessment
To learn if you are at risk for heart disease, Silver Cross offers a Premier Cardiovascular Risk Assessment. Specially priced at $225, the screening includes a high-speed CT Scan to measure calcium deposits in the coronary arteries (Calcium Score), 12-lead EKG, measurements of HDL/LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels, blood glucose level, body mass index (BMI), and a personal consultation with a cardiovascular nurse. A 12-hour fast is required. Cost is $225. For those just wanting to learn their calcium score, this CT scan is available for just $200 at the Silver Cross Health Center, 12701 W. 143rd St, Homer Glen, as well as at the Hospital, 1200 Maple Rd., Joliet. Scoliosis Screening
Dr. Anthony Rinella, spine surgeon, will offer free scoliosis screenings on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Silver Cross Health Center, 12701 West 143rd St., Homer Glen. To register, call (877) 694-7722. The screenings are free and available for children and adults.
