Christa McAuliffe Elementary School Students Donate Books to Pediatric Patients at Silver Cross Hospital

(May 3, 2016)— Five students from Christa McAuliffe Elementary School in Tinley Park wanted to give back to the community. So these conscientious fourth-grade students organized a group called JLSA, using each of the student’s initials, to implement a service project to benefit the community.  Julia Vela, Julia O’Toole, Layla Martino, Sarah Andrews, and Ava Andrea, organized book drives and donated over 300 gently used books to Silver Cross Hospital for pediatric patients on April 26.

Silver Cross Health Center Open House Draws Large Crowd

(April 20, 2016)— Over 350 area residents attended the community Open House on April 14 at the Silver Cross Health Center located at 12701 W. 143rd St. in Homer Glen.  The celebration was kicked off with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to welcome Women’s Primary Health Partners – Dr. Sunitha Avula, Roseann Horan, and Marie Veldman to the community. The all-female group, which recently relocated their office to the Silver Cross Health Center, has dedicated their practice solely to the primary healthcare needs of women.

Silver Cross Hospital Volunteers Honored for Service

(May 5, 2016)—Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox honored its volunteers at the annual recognition luncheon held at the Bolingbrook Golf Club in Bolingbrook on April 24. With four volunteer organizations: Advisory Board (Encore Resale Shop), Childerguild (Gift Shop),The Will County Union of King’s Daughters and Sons (founders of Silver Cross) and Inservice volunteers, more than 780 area residents donate their time and talents to raise funds for the hospital and assist in daily operations. Over the last year, they have given 55,000 hours of service and raised over $396,000 for the Silver Cross Foundation. Over 280 pound woman beats odds of having only 5 years left to live thanks to Weight Loss Surgery

BMI Surgery at Silver Cross helps area resident dramatically improve health after bariatric surgery

When 281 pound Tina Siranossian’s doctor told her she had five years to live due to health complications caused by obesity, she knew she had to find the right tools to help her stop using food to cope with the stresses of life, so she could be around for her children. “I lost my mother at 39-years-old due to complications from diabetes and obesity. I didn’t start to take care of myself until I looked into the eyes of my children, and realized that I didn’t want to put them through losing a parent at such a young age,” said Tina, who had weight loss surgery at age 32. Since losing 134 pounds after having Lap Band surgery six years ago with BMI Surgery at Silver Cross Hospital, Tina is grateful for every day she has beat the odds by exercising regularly and eating healthier foods.
