Silver Cross Hospital

The way you should be treated.™

For Homer Glen mom Jennifer Jeffries, the outpatient Silver Cross Endoscopy Center is the perfect fit for her family of five children, ages 16 to 22.

That’s because Jeffries, a two-year colon cancer survivor, has a genetic condition known as Lynch Syndrome that puts her children at high risk for developing colon and other forms of cancer. Regular screening, beginning at age 20, is critical for early detection.

The Silver Cross Diabetes Center will host Taking Charge of Diabetes Saturday, Nov. 10. The free event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center, Pavilion A, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Convenient parking and complimentary shuttle service are available.

“Since 1996, we have helped thousands of diabetics and their family members to live with this chronic disease that if not cared for appropriately, could lead to heart disease, blindness and amputation” says Tina Bona, Registered Dietitian/Certified Diabetes Educator with the Silver Cross Diabetes Center.  “Holding this event is just one of the ways we are committed to improving the quality of life for our patients and area residents living with diabetes.”

Attendees will be able to participate in a variety of lectures and interactive programs about diet, exercise, carb counting, holiday eating tips and more. Participants will leave with tools to help manage diabetes for life. Speakers include endocrinologist Dr. Veena Nadkarni and certified diabetes educators. Other highlights include "Ask the Pharmacist" and free body mass index (BMI) measurements and blood pressure checks. To register, visit www.silvercross.org.
