Silver Cross Program Receives Accreditation
The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons applaud Hospital
Joliet, IL (Nov. 21, 2011)—The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has granted a three-year accreditation to the cancer program at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet. Less than 25 percent of all hospitals in the United States receive the Commission’s accreditation.
Joliet Businessman Gives $1.5 Million to Fund new Cancer Center at Silver Cross Hospital
Joliet, IL (Nov. 15, 2011)— Joliet businessman Edward Czerkies recently donated $1.5 million in memory of his wife, Carolyn, to benefit the Silver Cross Replacement Hospital at 1-355 and Route 6 in New Lenox. This generous gift from the Czerkies family will support the construction of The University of Chicago Cancer Center at Silver Cross Hospital opening in April 2012. The building housing the Cancer Center will be named the Carolyn J. Czerkies Pavilion.
Three specialists join the University of Chicago Cancer Center at Silver Cross
Lawrence Schilder, DO, and Sunil Narula, MD, cancer specialists at the Midwest Center for Hematology/Oncology in Joliet, and Brooke Phillips, MD, from the Cleveland Clinic, have joined the University of Chicago as clinical associates to practice at the University of Chicago Cancer Center at Silver Cross, scheduled to open in spring 2012 in New Lenox, Ill.
State Approves $21.6 million Cancer Center in New Lenox

Joliet, IL (Oct. 26, 2010)—The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board today unanimously approved the construction of a $21.6 million cancer treatment center in New Lenox—on the Silver Cross Replacement Hospital campus. The Cancer Center is a partnership between University of Chicago Medical Center (UCMC) and Silver Cross Hospital and will provide academic medical care for southwest suburban cancer patients close to home. The 2-story outpatient facility will open in 2012.
