Hypertension is a common and dangerous condition that affects about 1 in 3 adults in the US. Only about half (47%) of these people have their high blood pressure under control. Hypertension or high blood pressure is a chronic medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is elevated. High blood pressure is a sign that the heart and blood vessels are overworked.

The Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission awarded the Forest Park Community Center (FPCC) of Joliet with a $18,600 grant to help fund their “Quality of Life” programs.

New Lenox, IL (January 6, 2015) —For many women shopping at the mall is a fun activity, but for 45-year-old Edna Lopez the idea of shopping at the mall filled her with anxiety.  “When I weighed over 200 pounds, I did most of my shopping on-line because I felt so self-conscious at the mall,” said Edna Lopez. “I didn’t want people looking at me because of my weight.” But since losing over 90 pounds after having weight loss surgery with BMI Surgery at Silver Cross Hospital, Edna loves to walk the mall and shop.

New Chaplain's Spiritual Guidance can help improve a Patient's Outcome

Hospital chaplains are involved in almost everything that happens at a hospital. New research shows positive spiritual guidance and discussion can help improve a patient's medical outcome. They are there for births and deaths. They talk to patients and their families. And they sit on various committees. Silver Cross is happy to introduce our new chaplain, Barbara Manning.
