U.S. News & World Report Names Silver Cross a High Performing Hospital

Silver Cross Hospital

Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox has been recognized as a High Performing Hospital for 2020-21 by U.S. News & World Report.

The annual Procedures & Conditions ratings, now in their 6th year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for common conditions and elective procedures. These ratings extend the U.S. News mission of providing consumers with patient decision support beyond the Best Hospitals rankings, which are geared toward complex specialty care.

Silver Cross earned “High Performing” ratings for heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, in recognition of care that was significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors such as patient outcomes. “High Performing” is the highest rating U.S. News awards for those types of care.

In addition, last week Moody’s Investor Services upgraded Silver Cross Hospital’s rating to A3 from Baa1, reflecting Moody’s view that the hospital's consistently strong margins and liquidity will continue to improve, as shown over the last five years.

“Silver Cross is committed to providing care of the highest quality, and our recognition as a High-Performing Hospital by U.S. News & World Report is evidence of that,” said Silver Cross President/CEO Ruth Colby. “While 2020 has been a challenging one for hospitals around the globe, it’s also brought to light the vital role that healthcare professionals play within our communities. Their hard work, dedication and sacrifice are inspiring. Here at Silver Cross, I couldn’t be more proud of our entire team of caring professionals who pour their hearts and souls into caring for our patients every day of the year. This recognition belongs to you.”

About the U.S. News Ratings
For the 2020-21 ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 10 procedures and conditions. Fewer than a third of all hospitals received any high-performing rating, and only 37 earned this rating in all 10 Procedures & Conditions. The state and metro area rankings recognize hospitals that received high performing ratings across multiple areas of care.

“For more than 30 years, U.S. News & World Report has been helping patients, along with the help of their physicians, identify the Best Hospitals in an array of specialties, procedures and conditions,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “The hospitals that rise to the top of our rankings and ratings have deep medical expertise, and each has built a track record of delivering good outcomes for patients.”

The U.S. News Procedures & Conditions methodology is based entirely on objective measures of quality such as risk-adjusted outcome rates, volume, quality of nursing and other care-related indicators.

The Procedures & Conditions ratings were produced by U.S. News analysts.
