John Phelan Elected Chair of Silver Cross Hospital Board
Jean Kenol Elected 1st Vice Chair
The Silver Cross Hospital Board of Directors recently elected John Phelan as Chairman. Phelan succeeds Scott Paddock, who stepped down to join the hospital’s executive team as Senior Vice President of External Affairs Nov. 30, 2020.
Jean Kenol was elected 1st Vice Chair.
Retired as an information technology executive, Phelan has served on the Silver Cross Hospital Board since October 2011. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Governors State University, where he also earned a master of business administration degree with a focus in accounting. Phelan is an enrolled agent for the Internal Revenue Service and a certified public accountant. Prior to his retirement from CommScope, he served as Vice President of IT Operations, where he led a group of 100+ global employees. He’s also worked for Andrew Corporation in Orland Park and Panduit in Tinley Park.
An active community supporter, Phelan has served as President of the Southwest Chicago Inter-League Baseball Association, the New Lenox Baseball Association and the New Lenox Soccer Association. His interests include spending time with his family, running, football, and technology.
Kenol has served on the Silver Cross Hospital Board since May of 2015. Kenol, a partner at Mahoney, Silverman and Cross, LLC, grew up in Joliet, graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in government.
After college, Kenol attended the University of Illinois College of Law on a full-tuition Lincoln scholarship, graduated in 2001 and that year, was admitted to practice law in the State of Illinois and the United States District Court Northern District of Illinois. During his law school career, he interned for the Honorable Ann C. Williams, United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit. Kenol’s practice areas include corporate and business law, real estate law, zoning and land use, and local government law. He was listed as a “rising star” in the 2009 Illinois Super Lawyers & Rising Stars magazine and is an active member of the Illinois State Bar Association.
Devoted to community interests, Kenol has served as the President of the Notre Dame Club of Joliet and on the Board of Directors for United Cerebral Palsy of Will County, and the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In September 2012, he was named the Joliet Area Young Professional of Year by the Joliet Chamber. Kenol resides in Chicago with his wife and 2 kids.
