Silver Cross Hospital Earns Elite Status for 21 Straight A’s for Patient Safety
New Grade for spring 2025 places Silver Cross among a small group of U.S. hospitals to achieve this consistent level of excellence
New Lenox, IL (May 1, 2025) – Silver Cross Hospital today was awarded an “A” Hospital Safety Grade for the 21st consecutive time by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog group focused on patient safety. This achievement places Silver Cross in an elite group of hospitals – only 31 in the U.S. and seven in Illinois – to earn consistent straight A’s twice a year for the past 10 years in a row.

The Leapfrog Group assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals nationwide based on over 30 performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, injuries and infections that can lead to harm or even death. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
