Everything for Your Peace of Mind

Obstetrician/gynecologists and our experienced team are on alert to help at any time. In fact, there is an obstetrician/gynecologist in-house 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Upon your arrival, you’ll be "partnered" with a specially trained obstetrical nurse certified in electronic fetal monitoring who’ll assist you through delivery. Our new unit also features mother/baby couplet care, which means that the same experienced nurse will care for both mother and baby until it is time to go home.

This ensures continuity in care and improved communication between the patient, family, nursing staff and physicians. At Silver Cross, we also have several certified lactation consultants available for support to new mom's who choose to breastfeed their babies. They offer education and support before and after delivery as well as when you return home.

Expert Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialists

Silver Cross also has the region’s leading maternal-fetal medicine specialists on staff to care for women with complicated or high-risk pregnancies such as women with diabetes, high blood pressure or advanced age.

Pregnancies range from the routine to the delicate, and our staff is ready to take care of problems that may arise. The Birthing Center at Silver Cross features the Amy, Matthew & Jay Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. has a Level 2 Nursery with Extended capabilities.

This means that our staff is specially trained to care for low-birth-weight infants (2 pounds, 12 ounces or greater), premature infants (30 or more weeks gestation), and infants on mechanical ventilators. Few babies ever need to be transferred to specialized neonatal care centers.

Neonatal/Pediatric Specialists

In addition to our superb nursing staff, we've partnered with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago to ensure that a specially trained neonatologist or pediatric hospitalist is onsite 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Having a doctor from Children’s present is a benefit since they can provide expert specialty care to newborns that may otherwise need to be transported to Chicago or a specialty center outside the community. And if your baby needs follow-up specialist care, Lurie Children's outpatient clinic is conveniently located in Pavilion A, which is connected to the New Hospital.

Cesarean Suite

While the birthing suites are fully equipped for labor, delivery, and recovery, some deliveries require surgery. And that’s why we have 3 complete Cesarean suites in our Birthing Center.

For your added peace of mind, another feature offered by the Silver Cross Birthing Center is Baby Care Connect PDF and Baby Care Connect-Spanish PDF, which is a telemedicine program in conjunction with the Lurie Children's cardiologists. Telemedicine is a cutting-edge diagnostic tool that allows pediatric cardiology specialists to analyze a baby’s echocardiogram in real-time through a video linkage with Silver Cross.
