Everything for Your Peace of Mind

Upon your arrival, you’ll be "partnered" with a specially trained obstetrical nurse certified in electronic fetal monitoring who’ll assist you through delivery. Our new unit also features mother/baby couplet care, which means that the same experienced nurse will care for both mother and baby until it is time to go home.

This ensures continuity in care and improved communication between the patient, family, nursing staff and physicians. At Silver Cross, we also have several certified lactation consultants available for support to new mom's who choose to breastfeed their babies. They offer education and support before and after delivery as well as when you return home.

This means that our staff is specially trained to care for low-birth-weight infants (2 pounds, 12 ounces or greater), premature infants (30 or more weeks gestation), and infants on mechanical ventilators. Few babies ever need to be transferred to specialized neonatal care centers.

Having a doctor from Children’s present is a benefit since they can provide expert specialty care to newborns that may otherwise need to be transported to Chicago or a specialty center outside the community. And if your baby needs follow-up specialist care, Lurie Children's outpatient clinic is conveniently located in Pavilion A, which is connected to the New Hospital.

While the birthing suites are fully equipped for labor, delivery, and recovery, some deliveries require surgery. And that’s why we have 3 complete Cesarean suites in our Birthing Center.
